about delivery

How long does it take to ship a car to or from St. Cloud, Florida?

The basic determinant for transit times (to/from St. Cloud) is the mileage. Shipping companies are capable of about 500 miles of transit on a given day, considering their regulated hours of drive and breaks. Open shipping is generally more rapid than enclosed, as there are more shipping companies servicing these routes and competing for business along the main highways.

Enclosed shipping generally involves smaller networks and thus requires more time; the addition to a delivery time usually comes to 1-2 days. For example, a Kia shipping from St. Cloud to Houston was transported 1028 miles in 4 days open, while a Ford was shipped 2934 miles from St. Cloud to San Francisco in 7 days enclosed, which is about average for that distance. Shipping cars to Alabama or Mississippi takes about 700 miles on average, and delivery typically occurs within 3 days, to the customer's door. What determines the cost of shipping a car in St. Cloud, Florida?

Most individuals expect that distance will be the determining factor. This is the most obvious one and very frequently is the biggest factor, though not always. Distance provides the base rate and also tightens the rate per mile as the mileage increases. Type of transport moves it a little more: open carriers carry 6-10 vehicles per transport and this is what most people hear when they are quoted the rate while enclosed carries less and is 40-60% more.

Vehicle condition contributes even more: inoperable vehicles receive a $100-150 winch fee. St. Cloud has a central location to US-192 and Florida Turnpike to establish a position on carrier routes headed north and west. The pickup window is the final item: a pick up within the first available timeframe will always be cheaper than picking up within a locked in window. By way of context the following are commonly quoted rates for open transport leaving from St. Cloud. A shipment going to Jacksonville FL is 180 miles and is $250-380, to Houston TX is 1028 miles and costs $800-1050, to San Francisco CA is 2934 miles and costs $1200-1600. As expected in each case as mileage increases so does total and decrease does the price per mile.

Open vs. Enclosed Auto Transport in St. Cloud, Florida

An open trailer is capable of transporting between six and ten vehicles, it is the most standard method for the industry and falls into industry standard rates. Vehicles shipped on an open trailer will be exposed to the elements while in transit. In 95% of shipments this type of transportation is perfectly fine.Enclosed transportation. A covered trailer is capable of transporting two to six vehicles, and typically costs 40-60% more to ship. These are capable of protecting vehicles from weather and road debris, there are less of these available in transport, so the scheduled delivery times can be further away.

Quick example: A trip from St. Cloud,MN to Jacksonville, FL is about 180 miles, open transportation will run you $250-$380. While a 180-mile enclosed transport would cost between $350-$570. The next example is a haul to Houston,TX that is 1,028 miles, open transportation for that distance would cost you anywhere from $800 to $1,050, and enclosed transportation would cost $1,120 to $1,575.Go with open for everyday cars, used cars, trucks, and SUV's. Choose enclosed if your shipment is a classic car, exotic, show car, luxury vehicle or a vehicle in which delivery condition cannot be compromised.

Questions & answers

Frequently Asked Questions

How does door-to-door auto transport actually work?

Door to door: meaning we pick up your car, at or near your address and deliver to your address at the destination. You are not expected to take your car to a terminal or shuttle yourself to a pick up point. Usually the driver gets to as close to your door as he can safely and legally take the truck. For most St Cloud addresses this would be directly at your house or very close to it. In some cases there will be very narrow roads or tight turn radius's and low overpasses that make it impossible for a large carrier to make it to the desired address and will ask to meet somewhere in close proximity. This is a standard practice, and is not reflected in the price. At pick up you give your keys and the driver checks the car, then signs Bill of Lading, and loads on the truck. At delivery you do the same in reverse. Eco Hub Logistics arranges the carrier and coordinates the times at the pick up and destination with you throughout the whole transaction.

How far in advance should I book shipping from St. Cloud?

Most of your routes will be well covered with a two week window. St Cloud is located in the southern area of Kissimmee, on US-192 close to Florida turnpike giving reasonable carrier access to northbound and westbound routes. That's helpful but two weeks will give you a little breathing room so you get the right carrier instead of the carrier that just happens to be available right away. If you can flex your pickup date, take advantage of it. The first available pickup will always be cheaper than the set time window often at significant savings. Booking a specific time window means an available carrier needs to dedicate the truck and add it into their schedule creating added expense. Florida has the snowbird traffic flow from October through March so if your shipment will occur between those dates book 3-4 weeks out to ensure yourself sufficient options.

Does someone need to be at my home for pickup and delivery in St. Cloud?

Someone has to be at both ends though, right. That does not mean it has to be you, but it can't be no one, it cannot be someone that would just sign off on it blind. When they come to pick up, there is someone standing at your location that goes along for the drive and confirms the current condition of the car and then signs the bill of lading. That becomes your reference point for the condition of the car when it left your possession. At the other end, they repeat that exact process but in reverse using the bill of lading. You must then check again and if there is any new damage it must be pointed out prior to you signing that bill of lading because once it is signed you almost cannot win against their claims. Even family or a neighbor friend is OK as long as they know what to look for. This inspection is the work it just cannot be someone just signing a paper.

How do I know if an auto transport company is actually legitimate?

Begin with the FMCSA. All legally licensed and bonded carriers and brokers throughout the US must be registered through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and carry an MC and DOT number. Through the FMCSA carrier search tool, any company's validity and safety status can be checked in under 60 seconds. Eco Hub Logistics has DOT 4303872 and MC 1676549, all public information and verifiable through the FMCSA. If a company is not able to supply or can't clarify this information when prompted, walk away. Once the license information is confirmed, research the company's reviews. Transport Reviews is the oldest website and therefore the most accurate review site regarding auto transport companies. Check the BBB to view the company's complaint history. Some good indicators of a company functioning correctly is that they will offer written confirmation of the service prior to moving your vehicle, they will provide you with the carrier information prior to them picking up the vehicle, they will not require large upfront cash payment, and they will roughly meet all the quoted price estimates of the other quotes you have received. Quotes much lower than any other received should be cause for further examination before signing an agreement.

What do I need to do before my car gets picked up in St. Cloud?

Not much, but the stuff that is important, is important. Wash the car's exterior before the driver gets there. A clean car streamlines the inspection, a scratch or chip that's already there won't be invisible under road dirt. Take your own pictures of the entire vehicle from all angles before the driver arrives and keep them easily accessible. This is what you'll look at if any issues come up. Gas level between a quarter and half. Battery charged. Tire pressure correct. No substantial leaks of fluids. If you have leaks let us know in advance of pickup day so the carrier knows to transport it in a specific spot on the trailer. Empty the interior of personal items, as well as remove all exterior accessories that might be damaged or become loose during transport such as roof racks, antennas, aftermarket lights etc. Turn off alarm or leave explicit clear instructions for the driver. This covers all of carrier expectations as well as the most common areas that become problematic when skipped.
